Graduates from Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne, New Amsterdam, East Berbice, and Black Bush Polder completed eight technical and vocational programmes, including Cosmetology, Welding and Fabrication, Heavy-Duty Equipment Operation, Electrical Installation, Commercial Food Preparation, Information Technology, and A/C Refrigeration Servicing and Repair, among others, with an investment of approximately $16,332,200. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the region’s ongoing development, skills enhancement, and workforce readiness.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma Griffith, reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to investing in people-centred development in line with its manifesto promise.

He stated that the government’s continued investment in Region Six has enabled over 3,000 residents to benefit from BIT programmes since 2020, demonstrating a strong national commitment to building a skilled and future-ready workforce.

With that in mind, Minister Griffith urged the graduates to utilise their new skills to create opportunities for themselves and their communities, describing their certificates as โ€œpassportsโ€ to independence, entrepreneurship, and meaningful employment, before congratulating them on their achievements.

David Armogan, Chairman of BIT

BIT’s Chairman, David Armogan, told the graduates to seize the growing opportunities in sectors such as oil and gas, agriculture, and infrastructure, reminding them that they are entering the workforce at a time when Guyana is the fastest-growing economy in the world.

Chief Executive Officer, Richard Maughn

BIT’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Maughn, in brief remarks, encouraged graduates to apply their skills with professionalism and purpose, reminding them that their certificates are tools of independence and economic opportunity that can help them build strong careers and contribute to their communities.
